Everyone has burnt themselves at some time, you may have noticed there can be a tangible delay between the second of injury and the sensation of pain, this occurs because before you can feel the pain of an injury an electro-chemical reaction has to take place, this reaction bridges the gaps at the synapses thus allowing the pain signal to continue the journey to the brain. This sculpture is a visualization of the synapse.
